Dave Acheson - banjo, began playing banjo in 1986. He was a member and leader of the Sacramento Banjo band for several years. From 1997 to 1998, Dave was the leader of the Black Tuesday JB until he was transferred to Wichita , Kansas. In 2000 he returned to Sacramento and rejoined Black Tuesday. Career opportunities once again have Dave currently residing in Orlando , Fl. Dave is on temporary leave until returning to Sacramento

 

Harold "Hal" Needham (Leader) - leader / trumpet, began playing trumpet in Junior High School and has lived in the Sacramento area from early childhood. He has had a long career associated with numerous bands consisting of 4 to 8 pieces playing diverse music from dance to concert. Traditional jazz has been his focus since the mid 1970’s. Hal became the leader of the Black Tuesday Jazz band in 1999.

 

Dominic Ruggieri - reeds / musical director, began playing reeds at an early age. He organized and led his high school dance/jazz band and played with numerous jazz groups while in college. Played with various jazz bands and combo’s throughout the San Jose Bay Area and was a member of the Saratoga Community Concert Band in the late 80’s. Upon retiring in 2001 he moved to the foothills from the Bay Area & joined Black Tuesday in 2002.

Don Irving - bass sax / string bass, began playing saxophone in elementary school. He started playing for dances while in high school and continued through college. He began playing traditional jazz when he joined the Monterey Hot Jazz Society in 1987. Don plays for many Monterey area jazz bands, as well as Black Tuesday. Don plays both string bass and bass sax.

 

Tom Brewer - drums, has played drums since his teens in about every type & style of music from Rock-n-Roll to Trad Jazz. Tom has played with numerous Bands and combo’s throughout the Sacramento area. He is a member of the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society Street Band. Tom has been the mainstay of Black Tuesday’s rhythm section since it’s inception in the early 90’s.

 

Suzanne Wiggins - vocalist, has performed with various local bands singing a variety of styles from Top 40, Rock-n-Roll to standards from 1975 – 1984. She has performed as one of Sacramento’s top Diva’s in the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. Suzanne is one of the original members of the Black Tuesday Jazz Band.

Alan Shaw - piano, began playing piano in grade school and played mostly as a solo pianist for many years. In the 1980’s became leader and keyboard player for "R U SURE BAND" in the Bay Area for 7 years. On retirement moved to Bakersfield, perform as soloist and with various jazz bands on occasion. Alan has written some original music for Black Tuesday.

 

Mike Hudson - A fixture in the Sacramento area jazz scene since 1979. Mike has been featured in bands like the Camellia City Hot Six, Hangtown Jazz Company, the Beez Knees Jazz Band and others. Before that Mike played in San Francisco in show bands and several jazz bands lead by Cuz Cusino, Rudy Castro, Jive’n Jack Shafer, the Bay Bones, and the Gary Young Orchestra.
